THE HOLY SPIRIT
DISTINGUISHED
FROM THE FATHER
AND THE SON
The Bible draws
a clear distinction between the Holy Spirit and the Father and the
Son.
They are separate
personalities.
Luke 3:21-22 [21] When all the
people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying,
heaven was opened [22] and the Holy Spirit descended on
him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven:
"You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well
pleased."
John 14:16 And I will
ask the Father, and he will give you
another Counselor to be with you forever --
They have mutual
relations to one another.
See Luke 3:21-22 above, where
Jesus prays (to the Father), the Spirit descends on Jesus, and the Father
speaks to Jesus.
See John 14:16 above, where Jesus
asks the Father, and the Father will send the Spirit, who is
another counselor.
They act upon one
another.
See Luke 3:22 where the Spirit
descends on Jesus.
See John 14:16 in the preceding
point.
They speak of each
other.
See John 14:16 above, where Jesus
says He will speak to the Father and the Father will send the Counselor.
They speak to one
another.
Luke 3:22 where the Father speaks
to Jesus.
They apply second-
and third-person pronouns to one another.
Luke 3:22b And a voice came from heaven:
"You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well
pleased."
John 14:16 And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever

The doctrine of the
Trinity is not expressly taught in the Bible. It is implied by various passages
about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The doctrine of the Trinity is not expressly taught in the Bible; it is the
putting together of truths that are taught. It is clearly taught in the Bible
that there is but one God. It is also clearly taught that there are three
Divine Persons -- the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
A clear distinction is
drawn between Jesus Christ, who was on the earth, the Father who spoke to
Him from heaven, and the Holy Spirit who descended in a bodily form as a
Dove, upon Him.
Luke 3:21-22 [21] When all the
people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying,
heaven was opened [22] and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily
form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love;
with you I am well pleased."
A clear distinction is
drawn between "the name of the Father" and "of the Son" and "of the Holy
Spirit."
Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
A clear distinction
is drawn between the Son who prays and the Father to whom He prays, and the
"Another Counselor" who is given in answer to the prayer.
John 14:16 And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever --
A clear distinction
is drawn between Jesus Christ, who goes away and the Holy Spirit, who comes
to take His place.
John 16:7 But I tell you the truth:
It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor
will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
A clear distinction
is drawn between the Son exalted to the right hand of the Father, and the
Father Himself, and the Holy Spirit, whom the Son receives from the Father
and sheds upon the church.
Acts 2:33 Exalted to the right hand
of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has
poured out what you now see and hear.
