THE BIBLICAL BASIS FOR APOLOGETICS |
1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. |
1 Peter 3:15 [NKJV] But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you ... |
Jude 3 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. |

"Why is it when I ask Christians a simple question like 'Why should I believe the Bible is true?' they never give me a straight answer?"
Have you ever asked a Christian any
of the following questions?
--
or --
Has anyone ever asked you
any of these questions?
Why should I believe the God of the Bible is the real God?
Why should I believe the God of the Bible is the only god?
I believe in a Supreme Being, but I don't believe Jesus is God (or) but I don't believe in the God of the Bible. Does it really matter whether I believe in the God of the Bible as long as I believe in a Supreme Being?
Who are right, Catholics or Protestants? Is there any difference between what they believe besides that Protestants don't consider the Pope the earthly leader of all Christians?
What are Bible Codes? Are they true? Can we use them to tell the future?
Instead of a clear, simple answer
did you get (or give) some combination of the following?
"Jesus said 'I am the way and the truth and the life [or light]. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" ("Life" is the correct word, but this is often misquoted, being mixed in concept with "I am the light of the world", another of Jesus' sayings.)
"They teach things that aren't in the Bible." (Referring to Protestants, Catholics, Mormons, or Muslims, depending on whom you are talking to.)
They (or you) started reciting various Bible quotes without ever providing any evidence that the Bible is true.
They gave you a condescending look, threw up their hands, and/or rolled their eyes like you were some kind of moron arguing that two and two is five.
They (or you) made some kind of motion as if "wiping the dust off their feet" and refused to continue talking about it.
These are typical responses of many Christians. Unfortunately, they give the impression that there is no reasonable basis for Christianity, that Christians have to "check their brains at the door" of the church.
Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Mormons, Moslems, etc., each claim that their religion is the only way to salvation and that without salvation a person will be punished forever.
Every religion has believers who "know" "by faith" that their particular religion is the only true religion.
The various religions contradict each other. They can't all be true.
Don't confuse lack of knowledge with lack of information! Most people can't tell you the population of New York City but some people can! Most Christians can't state specific objective evidence for Christianity, but some people can! |
In fact, many people have come to accept Christianity because they took a cold, hard, unbiased look at the facts and concluded that Christianity must be true. This site discusses the objective evidence supporting Protestant Christianity -- evidence you can (and should) examine and evaluate for yourself.
